It began in Munich. Roland Appel is a longlongterm DJ, music addict, collector and producer, starting his career in the very early Nineties.
As a member of Fauna Flash (with Christian Prommer), Trüby Trio (with Rainer Trueby and Christian Prommer) and Voom:Voom (with Peter Kruder and Christian Prommer) he released more than fourty 12inches, a few artist albums and several compliations (Trüby Trio DJ Kicks (K7) / V.A. "Maiden Voyage" (Compost))
With every kind project he toured worldwide playing at the biggest or best clubs and festivals for example Roskilde, Sonne Mond & Sterne, Sunflower, Big Chill (UK), 10 Days Off, Montreux Jazz Festival, Southport Weekender, Sonar, Fabric London, Cielo (NYC), Weekend Berlin, Yellow Tokio and hundreds more.
With such a background and history it was a matter of time to launch his solo career. 2004 was the initial start, when he moved to Paris, made a living there for one and a half year, he began writing music for solo releases. After returning to Munich he teamed up with engineer Jan Krause (Beanfield) to finalizing this recordings, which lead into several 12inch releases and an album on Jazzanova's imprint Sonar Kollektive. A massive solo start at Miami Winter Music Conference 2007 "Dark Soldier" went straight - as a secret weapon of the worldwide DJ elite - into the sets of Dixon, DJ Hell, Laurent Garnier, Gilles Peterson, Ame, Pete Tong , Tiefschwarz and the likes. This success were substantiate by more solo 12inches, by the album "Talk To Your Angel" (Sonar Kollektive) and of course by his remixes for Mule, Freerange, Aus Music and others.
Since one and a half year Roland has his own clubnight and residency called "Blast Of Silence" at Registratur, Munich.
His influences as a DJ , producer ranges from Detroit techno to folk, from disco music to soul and house , which are always immanence in his music. Well, perhaps the stroke of the gong in his "Schooldayz" were his first influence of an eerie techy sound.
Schooldayz is listed in DJ Hell´s " Miami Tunes 2009" charts and in the " Warm Charts" from Ali Tillet.
