about

There are only few internationally known DJs, producers and remixers from Switzerland. Robert Jan Meyer, aka Minus 8, is one of them mastering the whole spectrum of Electro House, House Classics, Downbeat, Drum & Bass and Nu-Jazz.

He started to make music at the end of the 80s as a bass-player in a Funk band but soon his fascination in midi-equipment led to experiments with a keyboard and sampler. At the beginning of the 90s, Robert launched his Minus 8 project as a slow and peaceful answer to all the plus 8 speed pitch madness that was prevalent in club music at that time. The result were four genre border crossing albums on Inflammable, Higher Ground and Compost Records between Downbeat and Drum’n’Bass. As all that wasn't enough, he's also found some time to put together a great series of compilations called "Science Fiction Jazz".

“Night Digger” is the second EP from the Zurich based producer on Compost Black Label. Here he continues the course he set in 2005 with the release of “Solaris” and delivers some fine state of the art tech and deep house tunes. The title track comes in three different versions. The pushing techy original builds around a distinctive pizzicato à la Fairmont’s “Gazebo”. The Slap version features an organic live bass and the classy Late Nite deep house version stresses the synth layers instead of the pizzicato. The EP gets rounded by the fourth track “Rapture” which shines as Chicago influenced mix of deep and acid house.

And if you ever come to Zurich make sure to pay Robert a visit in his own bar and mini club called Nachtigall which has just been opened to public...
